Cross Border Dispatch

The Role

The Dispatcher will be responsible for managing drivers, tracking and tracing and overseeing end to end shipment completion including border compliance and issue resolution to ensure drivers are operating on time according to customer and company requirements.

The Responsibilities

  • Manage driver schedules and provide direction on each shipment requirement with a focus on delivering high service levels
  • Dispatch company drivers and owner/operators or outsource to 3rd party carriers as required
  • Arrange back haul loads using Load link, to plan avoid driver downtime and empty miles
  • Manage trip plans for both domestic and cross border shipments respecting all road and border compliance requirements
  • Preplan routes to avoid delays between pick up and deliveries
  • Manage emergency calls and record all significant information accurately
  • Verify that all documentation is complete prior to driver pick up to avoid any delays at port
  • Record and maintain driver remuneration records for payroll in an accurate and timely manner
  • Govern maintenance records, hours of service and drug testing program requirements
  • Clearly and accurately communicate daily metrics and service levels to Senior Fleet Manager
  • Conduct all daily communications and tasks with professionalism and accuracy always focusing on achieving highest service levels
  • Advocate that drivers focus on operating safely on all shipment with a focus on compliance with company and country laws and regulations
  • Consistently monitor DOT & MTO compliance with fleet drivers and owner operators
  • Verify load security and safe handling procedures are followed for every shipment
  • Foster an environment of ongoing learning, mutual respect, integrity, ethical standards and professionalism at all times with team members, customers and all associated members of the company

Reporting Relationship

 Title:                           Fleet Dispatcher

Reports to:                 Senior Fleet Manager

Hours of Work:         8:30am-4:30pm (approx.) Monday to Friday

1stYear Successes

  • Assisting in the growth of the ASL Fleet while keeping margins on plan or better
  • Maximizing load capacity by filling the trailers to their capacity (90%)

Professional Experience and Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience managing cross border shipments, maximizing equipment utilization and successfully planning backhauls
  • Clear and proven experience handling cross border transportation with a keen interest in advancing skills
  • Strong knowledge of TMS and e-customs systems required
  • Ability to execute daily tasks and activities in accordance with company operating procedures
  • Plan/organize,prioritize and keep detailed records of all daily activities
  • Effectively troubleshoot problems/issues and perform tasks using good judgement with a focus on safety and the bottom line
